It’s official!

The Friends Used Book Sale – Hamden Fest 2019 was an outstanding success!

We collected around 8000 books, CDs, DVDs, and assorted other odds and ends between January 1 and May 15, 2019. That translated into over 370 boxes of books, etc.  That’s a lot of boxes that needed to be moved from the lower level of the Library to the first floor, through the Library to Thornton Wilder Hall. And I congratulate Tim Belcourt, team leader of Boy Scout Troop 610, for his incredible team who moved those boxes in two hours – and then had the energy to spend the next hour unpacking at least two-thirds of the boxes.  What a team!

Indeed, we had enough books, etc. to have a two day sale. So what happened to the books not sold?  Many of them went to the Second Hand Prose Book Store, many were boxed up for the next Friends Used Book Sale (Spring 2020), and many were donated to the VA in West Haven for our veterans and their families.

Your book donations made all the difference to the success of this book sale.  I am amazed at the community’s response both in donations and to the call for volunteers.

Speaking of volunteers, the book sale wouldn’t have happened without over 60 of the most hard-working committed volunteers who donated over 682 volunteer hours over 54 working days between January 1 and June 3.  These volunteers are so totally committed to the Friends mission of supporting the Hamden Public Library.  They rock!

Hold the date!  Our next spring book sale will be the weekend of June 6 – a part of Hamden Fest 2020.

We will be putting out a call for donations and volunteers – watch this page for more information.

Again, thanks to each and every one of you!
